Itinerary
Day 1 : Morning Res Bay Half Day with Kayak Adventures
Join us at our downtown office at 7:45 am to meet your guide, gear up, and get ready for the trip. We will drive as far south as the road allows to the launch beach at Lowell Point (3 miles from our shop), unload our gear, and prepare the kayaks. Your guide will provide a safety and paddling talk to ensure everyone feels comfortable in their boats.
We’ll paddle along the western shoreline of the bay, learning about the ecosystems of the coastal rainforest and intertidal zone. There is a lot to see along the way, and we always keep an eye out for wildlife. Our destination will vary depending on the day’s conditions and the speed of the group, but your guide will choose the best option for your trip and your family’s adventure goals.
Partway through the tour we will get out of the kayaks, have a snack and hot drink, and stretch our legs. Based on tides and timing, we’ll either discover unique critters in the tide pools, enjoy the beach, or take a short hike past towering sitka spruce with deep green sphagnum moss hanging from their branches.
After our break on land, we will get back in the kayaks and paddle back to Lowell Point, load up the kayaks, and drive you back to our downtown office in Seward. We typically spend a total of about 2-2.5 hours kayaking on this trip.
Day 2 : Private Half Day Exit Glacier Hiking Tour with Seward Wilderness Collective
Meet your guide at the shop in downtown Seward for a quick briefing before a 20 minute drive to the trailhead, where you’ll embark on the hike towards Exit Glacier.
Kenai Fjords National Park was created to protect the unique landscape of the Harding Icefield: a 700 square mile reservoir of ice high in the mountains of the Kenai Peninsula. As the only road-accessible glacier pouring forth from the icefield, Exit Glacier is a popular destination for tourists and scientists alike.
We’ll hike along the banks of the roaring glacial outflow towards the perpetually changing face of the glacier. As we wander through cottonwoods, alders, and eventually out onto rugged rocky terrain, the landscape changes before our eyes.
This tour will explore why glaciers in this area are sensitive to the changing climate, how the flora & fauna are adapting and why these changes matter to us today. This trail is well-maintained and family-friendly.

What Should I Wear
Clothing Layers
Seward is located at the northern tip of the largest coastal rainforest in the world. Our tours run rain or shine, so we ask you to wear synthetic or wool layers of clothing (cotton does not insulate when wet).
Rain Gear
For our half day trips, we strongly advise you bring a waterproof rain jacket and rain pants. If you do not have your own rain gear, we offer high quality rain pants and jackets for you to borrow at no extra cost.
Footwear
Please wear footwear that you’re comfortable walking in, will keep you warm, and you don’t mind potentially getting a bit wet (closed-toe water shoes, running shoes, and hiking boots are all fine options). Your guide will launch and land your kayaks from the beach and will work hard throughout your trip to keep your feet as dry as possible.
Other Essentials
We provide pogies (neoprene paddling mitts) which will keep your hands warm while kayaking. You’ll want to be sure to have your own reusable water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses, and hat.
Packing List
You will receive trip-specific packing lists upon booking, which will go into great detail about what else to bring. Keep an eye out for these in your confirmation emails!
