Itinerary

Pre-Trip Meeting

We will host a mandatory pre-trip meeting the night before your trip at 7:00 pm at our kayak shop in downtown Seward. This is your chance to:

  • Meet your guide and fellow guests
  • Discuss bear and kayak safety
  • Review the itinerary and expected weather conditions
  • Ask any last-minute questions

Two Options: Granite Point Overnight or Three Day Trip

Day 1

Enjoy the paddle out to Granite Point, exploring the dramatic and soaring coastline of Resurrection Bay along the way. This paddle is far less crowded than the more accessible west side of the bay, and we are typically the only kayaks out there. Along the way we will keep an eye out for wildlife.

Once at Granite Point, you’ll check into your cabin, relax, enjoy the views, and a home cooked dinner while watching the sunset over the fjord. At night you’ll fall asleep listing to the waves lap on the beach below.

Day 2

We will explore by land, sea, or both! We will take advantage of the Alpine trail at Granite Point, or paddle down towards Humpy Cove and Fox Island. The paddling and hiking out of Granite Point is world class and no matter what we end up doing, it’ll be a memorable adventure.

If you’re doing the overnight, we will catch a water taxi back to Seward in the early afternoon.

If you’re doing the three day, you’ve got another evening at the cabins!

Day 3 (Not applicable to Overnight)

We will enjoy some coffee or tea with a view in the morning, and take advantage of our final day on the bay. We will either enjoy the hike or paddle we didn’t get to on the second day. If you are keen to kayak more rather than hike, there are endless places to explore by kayak.

For both the Overnight and the 3-day, we are typically back in Seward around 4-5pm.

Granite Point is a remote haven located on Resurrection Bay, just 10 miles from Seward, Alaska. Accessible only by boat or helicopter, the property features four private cabins and one larger lodge, all perched on a dramatic cliffside. This unique location offers unparalleled views of Resurrection Bay and the surrounding mountains. For adventurers, Granite Point is a dream come true.

Cabins include: comfortable queen beds, well-appointed kitchenette, cozy dining area with tables and stools that allows you to enjoy your meals while gazing out over the Bay. Lighting is provided by energy-efficient, battery-operated LED lamps—and some cabins do have electricity. For warmth on chilly nights, cabins have either a direct-vent propane heater, or small wood stoves (fire wood provided) that keeps the cabin toasty.

Please note, this is a remote setting. To reach your cabin, guests will ascend four steep staircases and traverse a short 30-yard trail. As such, travelers should be in good physical condition, and prepared for this adventure.

Clothing Layers

Seward sits at the northern tip of the largest coastal rainforest in the world, which means we see a lot of rain. Our tours run rain or shine, so it’s essential to wear synthetic or wool layers. Cotton, including jeans, is not allowed on multi-day trips, as it does not insulate when wet and can be a safety concern in the backcountry.

Rain Gear

You’ll need a waterproof rain jacket and rain pants for your trip. If you don’t have your own, we provide high-quality rain jackets and pants at no extra cost. For anyone traveling in Alaska, we strongly recommend buying your own set — you’ll use it throughout your visit for almost any outdoor activity.

Footwear

We’ll provide rubber boots for the kayaking, as there are several beaches on this trip that are shallow and can be difficult to launch/ land kayaks from shore while keeping your feet dry at certain tides.

Bring a pair of comfortable hiking shoes (sneakers or boots); these can also serve as camp shoes while at Granite Point.

Other Essentials

We provide pogies (neoprene mitts) to keep your hands warm while paddling. Please also bring:

  • A reusable water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • A hat

Packing List

After booking, you’ll receive a detailed, trip-specific packing list in your confirmation email. Be sure to review it carefully to prepare for your adventure.
