Itinerary
Day 1 :: Aialik Glacier Day Trip
The Aialik Glacier Day Trip gives us the greatest opportunities for wildlife viewing, on a 2.5 hour water taxi ride through Resurrection Bay and Aialik Bay, where we’re dropped off for 3-3.5 hours of exploring by kayak. We’ll paddle towards Aialik Glacier, where we’ll watch and listen for huge spires of ice plummeting into the sea. Gliding along in kayaks at the water’s surface offers an intimate connection with this place and its enchanting but fragile ecosystems.
A return trip on the water taxi will have you back in town just in time to grab a beer downtown or dinner at one of the many locally owned restaurants (ask your guide for local favorites!). You’ll be ready to turn in at your lodging (not included) for a restful night’s sleep.
Day 2 : Alpine Trail with SWC
You’ll meet your Seward Wilderness Collective guide at 8:30 am to catch a quick water taxi out to the Alpine Trail, scouting for porpoises, seals, and otters on the ride south. A day of epic hiking follows, as you venture through moss-covered spruce forests and above alder-fringed meadows to the high alpine zone for unparalleled views of Resurrection Bay and the Resurrection Peninsula. Learn through stories of the changes we’re witnessing here and how we can look for them on our hike.
After two days discovering the hidden gems and top locals’ picks in Seward, you’ll be brimming with a new understanding of this place, inspired by the connections you’ve made, and empowered to engage with and care for the world around you.

What Should I Wear
Clothing Layers
Seward is located at the northern tip of the largest coastal rainforest in the world. Our tours run rain or shine, so we ask you to wear synthetic or wool layers of clothing (cotton does not insulate when wet).
Rain Gear
We require a waterproof rain jacket and rain pants, as these are full day tours in a potentially very cold and wet environment. If you do not have your own rain gear, we offer high quality rain jackets and pants for you to borrow at no extra cost.
Footwear
Please wear footwear that you’re comfortable walking in, will keep you warm, and you don’t mind potentially getting a bit wet (running shoes and hiking boots are fine options for both tours). Your guide will launch and land your kayaks from the beach and will work hard throughout the day to keep your feet as dry as possible.
Other Essentials
We provide pogies (neoprene paddling mitts) which will keep your hands warm while kayaking. You’ll want to be sure to have your own reusable water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses, and hat.
Packing List
You will receive a trip-specific packing list for each tour upon booking, which will go into great detail about what else to bring. Keep an eye out for these in your confirmation emails!
