There’s no better way to see fjord country than from the water! Traveling by kayak, the traditional mode of transportation in this area for thousands of years, provides a unique and intimate perspective. Your guide will go over all the basics of equipment use and paddling before we hit the water, so you don’t need any experience. A full day trip allows for a more immersive experience than a half day, and means you’ll have the chance to get further from the town of Seward.
Our most popular full day trip is our Aialik Glacier Day Trip, which offers the greatest wildlife viewing opportunities (whales, puffins, sea otters, and more!) in the areas we pass through on the wildlife boat tour. It’s also the only day trip that visits a tidewater glacier, which actively calves large chunks of ice into the sea.
The Fox Island Day Trip, offers a shorter and often calmer boat ride from Seward (45 minutes each way), and provides an off-the-beaten-path vibe, as we access the southeastern reaches of Resurrection Bay. We’ll explore the dramatic geology of the Resurrection Peninsula, teeming intertidal zone, and keep an eye out for wildlife. This is a guide favorite!
Our Caines Head Day Trip allows the most flexibility and the most activity, where we can pair paddling with short hikes and many intriguing beaches to stop along the way. If conditions allow, we will hike to the ruins of a WWII fort to stretch our legs and get a birds-eye view of the bay. This is by far our most active trip!
