This is an 8-day, intensive class that will help prepare you to deal with emergencies that might arise in remote areas. It’s a fantastic course, filled with both classroom learning and active, physical applications. Class will meet for 4 days, have 1 day off, and then meet for another 4 days. It is a perfect course for anyone working in an outdoor industry or in remote areas. Everyone is welcome.
This class covers basic anatomy and physiology of the body, and then uses that medical knowledge for practical application. You will learn how to treat wounds and burns in the field, as well as how to build improvised splints and manage musculoskeletal injuries. The course addresses spine management in detail, and you will even learn how to assess a spine in the field. We build improvised backboards and litters, and cover environmental and medical problems in addition to traumatic injury. You will walk away from this class with a greater understanding of the human body and how it works. It's important to understand how the body functions when everything is working RIGHT... and how to realize when things are wrong. Once you know how to recognize problems, we'll teach you how to manage them in remote environments and how to communicate effectively with any medical help or rescue team that may arrive.
Our WFR class will be held from April 18 - 26 in 2009. Class will be held in Seward, Alaska. The course will run from 8am - 8pm every day. You cannot miss any class time in order to receive your certification, and you're expected to be on time every morning at 8am.
The cost of the class will be $575. This does not include food or lodging, although coffee, tea, and water will be provided.
