QUICK START Kayaking Course
$120 / person, plus tax and gratuity 2 person minimum
Includes: 5-6 hour class, equipment and all instruction.
For this class, we have you meet at our office at 7:15am to fit your drysuit, and we'll drive to the beach with the 8am guided trip.
Learn basic paddling skills and field protocols from people who specialize in kayaking! We emphasize education of not only the skills, but also the area and its hazards and wonders. We are offering this course at such a low price in hopes of increasing knowledge and awareness, and bringing the wonders of Kenai Fjords National Park to more people. This class is designed to introduce you to the sport of kayaking, and the elements we encounter in Alaska.
We will use drysuits and company paddling gear in Resurrection Bay to teach and practice the following:
- Adjusting your boat and paddle to fit you.
- Care of paddling gear.
- Basic bracing and stroke techniques.
- Re-entries and Assisted Re-entries.
- How to deal with wind, weather, and waves.
In addition to this time in the bay, we will meet to discuss trip planning and itineraries, bears and food storage, leave-no-trace protocols, safety in the field (first aid recommendations, marine radios, flares, planning ahead...), and clothing.
Whether you hope to qualify for boat rentals (depending on how you do in the course), or whether you are just looking to expand your knowledge of the sport and the area... this is the class for you!
